Sorry for the gap in posts - summer has been crazy!
I've been busy supporting the community garden - setting up sessions for pruning and grafting, making sure to keep up with my own weeds, trying out different jams, and preserving fruit to make jam later (another community garden session). I've gotten a few hours of sewing in, but not as much as I'd like; gardening, dragon boating, helping the inlaws, and camping, and being sick for dragon boat festival took over, so here goes a catch-up post with lots of fun pictures and not much explanation - SUMMER!!! We spent last Sunday at the Devonian Gardens Japanese Spring Festival. There was awesome Taiko drumming and lovely garden time in the sun.
Side bonus - they were selling seedlings so I bought some eggplants for my community garden bed :D I spent the weekend and part of today getting the garden tidied up. The bushes are happily in bloom and tulips are out and happy!
It became unseasonably warm a few weeks ago (its actually been an awesome winter - relatively warm, relatively light on snow, short).
I've been getting the garden cleaned up so that I can see the plants coming up - tulips, garlic, and primrose are up and going at it! I started my indoor tomatoes and peppers as well as some french shallots. The shallots went crazy fast - so now I need to figure out whether I can plant them out without the getting frozen. I think I'll be safe :D On the note of spring, I was at the quilt store picking up my block of the month and there was a too cute new set of fabric available (Bee Creative by Moda).
So I bought the fat quarter pre cuts (main fabric not available yet), with plans to make it into a nice log cabin quilt. I spent some time figuring out the most efficient way of cutting up each fat quarter to get the maximum number of squares out of the deal, and got to work setting up the 10" finished block layout. The first few blocks are turning out quite nicely, it will be fun to get this one to complete! I'll keep posting as I progress, but if you want to see all the photos, they'll be in the album. |
