The first two ballet classes have been fun so far. I'm still super awkward, but can't possibly be getting worse :D
I got ambitious and went to the Saturday stretch and strength for dancers class. They said it was drop in for all levels, but when I got there it said it was intermediate/advanced... Uh oh. I did it anyways, and it wasn't too bad, lots of stretching and ab workout activities, so I hurt all over today. I did a quick run and some crunches today to keep me moving, it will all get better in a few weeks, after a bit of pain and torture . Friday was the last set of instructions to put the Mystery quilt together - looking lovely! I think I'll build it up with borders as it is lap quilt sized right now. I have a bit of each fabric left, so I can probably piece a few bits together to make the border more interesting. We'll see how that goes!
I've been being lazy exercise wise for the past few months, and a lifestyle of cookies & quilting doesn't lead to a stable weight (sadly).
I decided last week to stop being a bum, and get back at running, but I needed something to make it slightly less monotonous for the training period, and I'm crap at keeping up with stretching. I am graceful like a hippo, and wish I was more graceful. So obviously an adult ballet class is the answer, right!? I found one that is evenings, and drop in, so you don't have a 6 month commitment - very nice! So far I've done three runs and I did my first ballet class last week, and have second coming up this evening! Here's to being more healthy :D We were down helping the in-laws with their house again this weekend, and got the sheathing done for most of the house, it is starting to look nice and house shaped!
Winter settled in yesterday evening and over today, so we are likely done the amount we could get done until spring shows up next year. Monday, I got a surprise when Sparrow Studioz called to say that the quilt I had left there was completed. I had made a quilt for the in-laws for their new house. It is huge, and I wasn't going to be able to do it justice on my home machine, nor am I practiced enough on a long arm to get it done as precisely, so I left it to get custom quilted. Given very minimal info (Dutch theme with tulips in there somewhere), the ladies at Sparrow Studioz finished the quilting for me, and the quilt is gorgeous! It apparently caused her to stay awake at night for a few days, but she came up with a plan. I especially love the border they added around the star and echoed at the edge of the border. I still have to bury the stitches and bind the quilt, but it is looking AMAZING! A friend convinced me to sign up for the Katja Marek Fussy cutting class last weekend at Quiltessential Co. in St. Albert. I had fun signing up for the class and playing with fabrics to come up with a quilt palette. The class goes through Katja's book The New Hexagon , which has patterns and methods for English paper piecing. The class also went over different methods to determine how to select areas of your fabric for fussy cutting.
The class was fun, though my friend and I felt a little singled out as "those young ones over there". It is irritating that this is how we are always identified whenever we take a class, or anytime you go to a new quilt store. It also would have been nice if she spent more time on the stitching and lining up the pieces as opposed to fussy cutting. Maybe its cause us "young ones" are used to using our sewing machines... We drove down to Calgary on the weekend, so I did some sewing in the car and in the hotel during down time! Progress below! |
