Sorry for the gap in posts - summer has been crazy!
I've been busy supporting the community garden - setting up sessions for pruning and grafting, making sure to keep up with my own weeds, trying out different jams, and preserving fruit to make jam later (another community garden session). I've gotten a few hours of sewing in, but not as much as I'd like; gardening, dragon boating, helping the inlaws, and camping, and being sick for dragon boat festival took over, so here goes a catch-up post with lots of fun pictures and not much explanation - SUMMER!!! We used Chinese new year as a great excuse to try some home cooked Chinese food with Friends. I found a great foody person's blog - The Woks of Life and got a few recipes to try out. It required a trip to T&T's; which is always fun, and ends up with way too many yummy things being purchased.
I made BBQ pork buns as they are Jesse's favorite thing in the world ever ever ever, and coconut buns as they are my favorite thing in the world ever ever ever, and some Chinese broccoli with oyster sauce. The BBQ pork buns were super delicious, and the recipe was not that complicated as it assumes you are buying the pork already cooked. The coconut buns were wonderfully yummy, but I had some issues with the top strips; I'm not sure exactly how I got a 3 ingredient mix to go so wrong, but it wasn't the right consistency. The buns were amazing anyways though, and I'll likely be making them again! |
