It has been up and down weather so mostly just holding steady this week on in house projects and outside running.

The last 4 days have been warm, sunny, and melting - beautiful spring weather. It was too good to last…today is heavy snowfall warning, some black ice under the snow, and 10 to 20 cm snowfall expected in the next 5 or so hours. Oh Alberta! At least by March, we can take solace in the knowledge that the new snow won’t last long and it was free water for the fruit trees!
Below are river valley run pictures - one from Saturday and one from this morning - same location. I only fell once on today’s run, so not too bad. Enjoy the schadenfreude if you can! Spring showed up quite suddenly this week, with the joy of plus 10 in the day and -5 at night - so biiig puddles during afternoon walks and drives and ice sheets for evening walks and drives :). Many people seem to get angry at the puddles; I personally love splashing through them!
We did a river valley walk and trees are ready to go - they are already pushing out their pussy willow type toes, with a few feet of snow still at their feet. And most of the seeds are up, just waiting on the peppers to get their act together (they are always a few days longer than the tomatoes…) Spring is in the air! The growing racks are up and I’ve started more seedlings than I could ever need; it must be spring! Seeded them on Sunday evening.
The seeds are starting to poke out their roots, and a few of the more ambitious ones have their seed leaves out - basil, oregano, tomato, and the flower types are making their moves; hoping that the peppers and slower herbs start showing signs soon (they were older seeds so may have lower germination rates overall). Thankfully, warmer weather has also shown up, so the snow has started to melt too :) Saturday was warm and melty at a sunny +7 C! I did a treadmill run, then we did a nice long hike with the pups through the river valley. It was the first time Asiago has seen bare ground - he wasn’t quite sure what to do with it, so went back to launching himself up the snowbanks and romping through the sticky deep snow.
Sunday was colder, so treadmill run and quilting class with Bethane Nemesh, then some long arm practice/free styling. My amaryllis bulbs were a bit behind this year, and decided to bloom in February - but are putting up two flower stalks each, the second colour opened this morning, so lovely! Now we are napping/being bums because time change gives a great excuse to be sleepy! Likely setting up the seedling grow op and getting things going for the garden this evening, or early next week. |
